A Morning of Associative Regression
I am in Cebu right now. A while ago I was on a plane from Davao City. Touched down Mactan, Cebu International airport and ride a taxi.
I passed by Mandaue City and it brought back memories when I was still on my second year high school.
The Mactan bridge is the same repetition of long trusses that hold on to each other to support the long span slab. It reminds of me Filipinos in general. We always have this idea of holding to memoirs of the past. Memories of lost homes for instance.
I do not know if this is a good thing. This I have to find during the duration of the construction work.
'Today, all the blossom still clings to the vine' was playing on the radio. The original one. I like it. My mom always sings this song to my nephews and it makes them sleep.
But this is not a happy song as I digest the words but the melody is - like rebuilding. Sadness occurs but the melody of rebuilding makes the situation happy.
Going to Ormoc in a while.
Afternoon - The Meet up with a friend
In Ormoc, I met a friend name Quin Cruz. The moment we met, I knew that he will be friend forever. He is a researcher and a person dedicated to social good.
It is amazing how it is that I always meet people with the same mindset as me these days. I must be doing something right.
We arrived in Palo and from there we planned to take a bus to Dulag. Palo for me is the true Tarp City. Everywhere you could see roofs finished with Tarpauline in different colors and different aid brandings.
Going to to Dulag via bus, we passed by Tanuan. The place was beautiful and it feels like the place is shouting "Hope" when we passed by.
When we arrived im Dulag , Quin and I rode a motorbike to barangay Batug. The driver asked as 250 pesos. When we asked the locals how it really cost, they said, it should have cost 25 pesos. This is not good at all.
Evening Tenting
Quin and I together with a new friend named Sarah Queblatin, one of the organizers of the camp, help set up our tents. The ground was still wet from moist but because we had a long way and we were already tired, we did not care.
It was also this day that I met Maria, a very nice Filipina women raised in New York. She, too, has a lot of passion.
Everything is coming into place. I am meeting the right people.
I made a collage as a gist of today's experience. Since today is all about tenting and travelling, here is a collage about Faces of a tarp city.
